Google+ Events leaks out through Google Calendar, will let your knitting circle schedule a Hangout
Google has been on another one of its Google+ feature addition streaks lately, and it's so eager to please that it's spoiling other features early. More than a few people visiting Google Calendar have been given an introduction to "Events in Google+" in recent hours despite the extra component (and its splash page) being absent. From what we know, Events will provide the obvious Facebook-like option to create and track events among Google+ circles, but it will also let organizers slot in a Hangout video chat in advance as well as pool together photos and videos associated with an event. The Google+ app for Android has even been showing an empty button that's speculated to be a dedicated Events section. Google hasn't sent any official word as to when Events will go live, although we suspect it won't be long before everyone from photographers through to grandmothers knitting scarves can use Google+ to coalesce.

The Cannes premiere of West's film was held inside a tented pyramid designed to create an effect of 'levitation,' according to designers.

When Kanye West premiered his "Cruel Summer" film last week at Cannes, he did so in his usual, uh, understated manner: projected on seven video screens inside a tented pyramid on the Mediterranean Sea.
It was a stylistic choice meant to represent "a post-Steve Jobs, post-Windows era ... where your mind puts the screen back together, the way you put memories together ... like the experience of life" (so said West in a speech before the premiere). But if you weren't lucky enough to attend the film's gala opening — which is to say, if you weren't Kim Kardashian or Jay-Z — those words probably don't hold much meaning to you.
But now, you can get a glimpse at what it was like to be inside that tented pyramid, as a series of photos of the venue — and the multitude of strategically placed video screens — have hit the Web.
Designed by international firm OMA, who have built eye-popping venues in cities like Beijing, Montreal and, uh, Syracuse, the "temporary pavilion" featured seven screens "of cinematic proportions," and was envisioned as "a constellation of projections that wrap around the audience."
The pyramid itself was created "to create an effect of levitation above the red carpet," and attendees "ascend[ed] into the pyramid along a continuous red carpet that widen[ed] into the 200-seat auditorium." The entire projected was site-specific collaboration between OMA, West's own DONDA collective and Cannes-based production team Ar'Scene.
"Cruel Summer," inspired by West's upcoming G.O.O.D Music compilation of the same name, stars Kid Cudi as a car thief who falls in love with a blind Arabian princess. The 30-minute film was co-directed by Alexandre Moors, who previously worked with West on his videos for "Runaway" and "N---as in Paris," and was shot entirely in Qatar in the Middle East.

Lian-Li designs a moving train PC case, makes plugging in a challenge (video)
Lian-Li is a fan of odd-looking PC cases, but the boxes have usually had a tendency to remain stationary. The CK-101 takes away that one certainty: the design stuffs a fully functioning PC case with hard drive bays, a slim optical drive and USB 3.0 ports into an on-the-move model of a steam engine train. There's more than a few questions about how it works -- including whether or not it needs a battery to stay rolling, and just what's generating the 'steam' -- but it's already apparent from the video (below) that wired peripherals won't be much fun if you're chasing your computer down the tracks. There's a chance that Lian-Li will be selling a considerably more fixed-in-place version; we'll know more when the CK-101 is shown off at Computex in early June, where there will also be a show-specific, SUV-like Q15 case to sate your appetite for very literal car computers.

Kanye's 'Cruel Summer': Cannes Reviews Are In!
Critics agree the film's seven-screen display is a unique experience that hooks audiences.

Kanye West's latest project comes in the form of his short film "Cruel Summer," which the rapper produced, wrote and directed. He premiered the experimental 30-minute flick in Cannes during the city's famous film festival, providing the audience with a unique experience. Instead of watching the film on one large screen, viewers watched it on seven separate displays, which sometimes showed different angles of each shot at once.
The movie centers on Kid Cudi, who plays a car thief who falls head over heels for a blind Arabian princess. And while the story entertained those in attendance, critics agree that the film's spectacle and music are what hooked audiences.
The Story
"Cudi stars as a thief of high-end sports cars who falls in love with a blind Arabic princess. But the princess' father won't allow the pair to marry unless the thief can help her see, so the hero must find a way to make it happen (metaphorically). The story is secondary to the pyrotechnics, with new music from West and a thumping surround-sound quality that makes a 3-D Michael Bay effort feel like an iPad short." — Steven Zeitchik, 24 Frames
The Experience
"Inside the tall white pyramid, seven huge screens were installed in front of padded bleacher-style seating: five in a three-180-degree panorama, one on the ceiling, and one below the stands. ... The film felt like a mash-up of high-gloss Doug Aitken-style video installations, concert video backing panels, and narrative, big-budget music-videos. The movie flickers to life on the ceiling screen, as a hatch opens and boots drop through and onto the screen below. Soon, masked car thieves played by the G.O.O.D. Music crew survey the sports cars in a posh garage, while a masked Kanye and Kid Cudi engage in a Tarantino-style pop-culture debate. ... After bickering, they jump into Lamborghinis and shoot down the streets of Doha to a remix of West's recent single 'Mercy.' Then the soundtrack downshifts into a remix of Salem's 'I'm Still in the Night' as the film becomes more of a mythic romance, replete with Arabic architecture, desert vistas, and flowing fabrics." — Logan Hill, GQ
The Sound
"The film is heavy on the use of music and sound, the seats often shaking from the bass. Several times during the under-30 minute clip, the audience would sway to the beat of the songs, which often feature music from West's G.O.O.D. music album." — Rebecca Ford, The Hollywood Reporter
The Final Word
"The big takeaway here for the average Kanye fan is that there's new music involved, although it's unclear if that new music is off the G.O.O.D. Music album, was put together just for the flick, or will be released in some as-yet-undecided (but definitely revolutionary) form.
But as a vocal, unashamed fan of 'Ye's 'Runaway' movie, I actually can't wait to see this, Kid Cudi-leading-blind-girl-around-by-strings and everything. Will it be released online? In movie theaters? Or will there be a traveling seven-screen beach pyramid that you and I can one day immerse ourselves in? Dare to dream. Dare to dream." — Amos Barshad, Grantland
