Despite its sunny title, it seems that Selena Gomez's next film is going to be anything but a joyful romp.
With "Kids" director Harmony Korine at the directing wheel, "Spring Breakers" will take a turn for the dark and unwieldy. Which is fine for 19-year-old Gomez, whose film docket is quickly getting filled up with films that could make Disney execs blush.
The flick follows a group of college girls (played by Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and "Pretty Little Liars" star Ashley Benson) who rob a restaurant to pay for their spring break. After landing in jail, they quickly become entangled with a drug and arms dealer who bails them out. James Franco stars in the film as the corn row-wearing bad guy.
"It's really fun. It's completely different than anything I've done before," she added. "People are going to be a little surprised, I think, by the choice. But it's such a good movie. It's real. It's raw. It's about actual spring break and it's just, they kind of take it to a whole other level." She gushed about the chance to work with Korine, who she said took her acting to a new level. "It's great. The freedom we had, I mean Harmony, the director, was so flexible with us," she explained. "He just really allowed us to push ourselves, which was nice. He never said we did anything wrong. He just said it was a choice. He gave us these locations and just said, 'Act like you're on spring break.' "
In addition to "Spring Breakers," Gomez is also attached to a thriller with Ethan Hawke, "The Getaway," as well as Eli Roth's next flick, "Aftershock."

Intel's latest hardware will now lend itself to all three models, the M14x (from $1100) M17x (starting at $1500) and M18x (from $2000), replacing the existing Sandy Bridge architecture in the models we saw earlier this month. Starting with the smallest, the M14x will be powered by an Intel Core i7-3820QM (up to 2.7GHz), while larger models will get their processors nudged up to the 2.9 GHz Core i7-3920XM (M17x) and 2.9GHz Core i7-3920XM (M18x). Alienware reckons these new additions will lend a 15 percent increase to the rigs' performance (depending on use), augmenting improvements seen with new PCI Express 3.0 support, mSATA cached storage and the latest generation of NVIDIA graphics. Dell's now ready to take your order -- alongside a mind-boggling number of customization options -- at the source link below.

Permalink |We thought the 8K 85-inch Super Hi-Vision LCD we saw during CES was impressive, but Japanese broadcaster NHK is already looking to surpass that by going even bigger. To that end it worked with Panasonic (above: that's Panasonic's Keishi Kubota on the left, Yoshio Ito of NHK on the right) to create this 145-inch prototype plasma, unveiled today as an example of the kind of displays we can expect to see once broadcasts jump to the higher resolution some day. The world's first self-illuminating Super Hi-Vision TV, it features every pixel of its expected 8K resolution -- 7,680 x 4,320. After working for months on smaller (only 85- or 103-inch) 4K plasmas, the two companies had to come up with an entirely new drive method for the display that works by scanning the pixels vertically to achieve a uniform picture quality. The NHK plans to show off the new display at its open house in May, although we're a bit more interested to see if we can watch the Olympics on it this summer. Check the gallery below for a few more pictures from DigInfo.TV's Ryo Osuga, or hit the more coverage link for a breakdown of the difficulties encountered in building a high resolution display that's this massive.
